A Windows tracker rollout needs more than a successful installer download. Verify the supported device, workspace sign-in, startup behavior, attendance workflow and recovery after a restart. Then expand in stages with a clear support contact.

StafflyTracker's current recording agent supports Windows 10/11 x64. The browser dashboard can be used separately, but that does not imply native recording support on every operating system. Check [product availability](https://stafflytracker.com/trust/product-status/) before planning a mixed-device deployment.

## Build a device readiness list

Record the employee, approved computer, operating system, architecture, network environment and person responsible for setup. Include whether the device is shared and whether the employee has the permissions required by the approved installation process.

Do not collect unrelated personal information just to build a rollout list. The objective is to know which supported device should report for which account, and who can help if it does not.

Check the company's security requirements before distributing the installer. Use the official, current download path provided through the supported onboarding process rather than forwarding an old file from a chat history.

## Stage the deployment

| Stage | Scope | Exit condition |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Administrator test | One approved test device | Install, sign-in and restart checks pass |
| Small pilot | A few representative roles | Attendance and exceptions are understood |
| Department rollout | One manageable group | Support issues are resolved and documented |
| Wider deployment | Remaining approved devices | Version and reporting status are verified |

Choose group sizes your support capacity can handle. Installing everywhere at once can turn one configuration mistake into a company-wide interruption.

The [two-week pilot plan](https://stafflytracker.com/blog/time-tracking-pilot-plan/) provides a practical test sequence before the wider stage.

A practical sequence for this workflow. Each step is explained in the guide.

## Verify the account and workspace

After installation, confirm that the employee is signing in to the intended company workspace with the correct role. A manager account and an employee account do not necessarily have the same tracking behavior.

Check the first attendance session and the device identity shown to the administrator. If the same account has been used on another machine, distinguish old evidence from the newly installed device.

Record the installed version. A download succeeding does not prove the new application replaced an older running instance or that the expected version is now reporting.

## Test startup and restart behavior

Restart the approved test laptop and observe the documented behavior. Does the tracker start as configured? Is sign-in preserved under the supported workflow? Can the employee understand whether a session is open?

Do not promise that an administrator can start a completely absent program on any powered-on laptop. Remote actions depend on the installed application, its background behavior, authentication and communication. Demonstrate the actual dependency before relying on it operationally.

Also test sleep and wake during an agreed non-critical period. Record whether communication resumes and how any monitoring gap appears in the dashboard.

## Test a network change without guessing

A laptop may move between office Wi-Fi, home internet and a mobile hotspot. If a connection fails, capture the time and exact error through the approved support process. Compare whether the service is reachable from another device before assuming the employee's installation is broken.

Avoid broad changes such as disabling endpoint protection or opening unnecessary remote access. Investigate the specific failure and use supported recovery instructions.

The [tracker-status guide](https://stafflytracker.com/blog/tracker-off-vs-clocked-out/) explains why an open attendance session and a stale tracker signal can coexist.

## Make updates an operational process

Record how updates are delivered in the current release, who checks failed updates and what happens if a device remains behind. Automatic behavior should be verified, not inferred from the presence of an update button.

Keep a small pilot group for new releases when practical. Review the [changelog](https://stafflytracker.com/changelog/) for changes that affect collection, settings or manager interpretation. If a release changes the employee-facing workflow, communicate that change.

An update policy is incomplete if no one checks whether the devices actually reached the expected version.

## Close the rollout with evidence

A completed checklist should include version, last successful report, a normal clock-in and break test, restart behavior and an acknowledged support route. Separate unresolved devices from verified ones.

Do not mark a device complete merely because the employee appears in the user list. Account creation, installation and live communication are different milestones. Follow up on the specific missing milestone.

## Common questions

Can this install on a Mac because the dashboard opens there?

The dashboard and recording agent are different products. Check the currently supported agent platforms; StafflyTracker currently documents Windows 10/11 x64 recording.

Should employees use a copied old installer?

Use the approved current source and verify the reported version afterward.

What should we ask before buying?
